What exactly is First Tee – Greater Pasadena?

First Tee – Greater Pasadena is 501 (c)(3) nonprofit youth development organization whose mission is to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.  With the chapter’s home facility at Brookside Golf Club, adjacent to the world-famous Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, CA, First Tee – Greater Pasadena reaches young people on golf courses throughout the San Gabriel Valley, in local elementary schools, after school programs and park and recreational summer programs.

Currently, First Tee – Greater Pasadena offers various programs at these grass green facilities (golf courses): Brookside Golf Club (Pasadena, CA); Altadena Golf Course (Altadena, CA); Alhambra Golf Course (Alhambra, CA); Eaton Canyon Golf Course (Pasadena, CA); Arroyo Seco Golf Course (South Pasadena, CA); Marshall Canyon Golf Course (La Verne, CA).

Does my child need golf equipment?

Participants are welcome to bring their own golf clubs.  Although First Tee – Greater Pasadena will provide equipment for all classes for students who do not have clubs.  Golf equipment is available for ALL levels and both types of programs (Classes and Camps).

Where should my child meet for class?
Brookside- At the First Tee wing banner, adjacent to the driving range.

Alhambra– At the First Tee wing banner, adjacent to the driving range

Altadena– First Tee Clubhouse, adjacent to the chipping green

Eaton Canyon– Patio area behind the restaurant

Marshall Canyon- At the First Tee wing banner, adjacent to the putting green

What happens if there’s bad weather?

In the case of bad weather, an update will be posted 2 hours prior to the start of the scheduled class, and a SMS Text Message will be sent to the phone number used for registration.

What happens if classes are canceled?

If First Tee – Greater Pasadena cancels a class due to weather, a holiday, or for another reason First Tee – Greater Pasadena will make up that canceled class at the end of the session.

What should I do if I’m not able to make it to my class?

Can parents stay with their children during a class?

Please follow instructional etiquette: all parents and spectators must remain approximately 50 yards from the class and cannot distract or be involved with the students.

What is the difference between an Introductory/Intermediate class, an Advanced class, and a camp?

The overall expense for each youth that participates in our 8-week session is approximately $150.00.  First Tee – Greater Pasadena Board of Directors, in cooperation with community supporters, including parents of our participants, are committed to raising the additional funds needed to maintain the quality of our program.

Introductory/Intermediate level classes are designed to introduce youth to the game of golf.  The average participant to instructor ratio is 8:1. The participation fee for 1 child is $130.  Classes meet once per week.  Seasonal session classes will have a total of 12 hours in programming,

Advanced level classes are designed for current members who have passed certification requirements from the PLAYer and Par levels of First Tee Life Skills Curriculum.  The average participant to instructor ratio is 5:1.  The participation fee for 1 child is $130.  Classes meet once per week.  Advanced level classes will have a total of 12 hours in programming.

A typical camp week is a 6-day long experience.  The participation fee is $275 per child and will cover the entire week of the camp.  Camps will have a total of 18 hours of possible programming.
